Background
I started in 1999 at Crystal Decisions in Germany as a trainer and report design consultant, and went on to drive the joint product roadmap between Business Objects and SAP — a partnership I kept working on after SAP acquired Business Objects.
Over more than a decade at SAP I held director and senior director roles in product management, solution management and customer engagement, focused on integrating the SAP BusinessObjects BI portfolio with SAP NetWeaver BW, SAP HANA and the SAP Business Suite. I later served as Chief Product Expert and Global Product Evangelist for SAP Analytics Cloud, and as Global Product Evangelist and Senior Director of Product Management for SAP's data warehousing portfolio.
Since then I have led data and analytics practices as Vice President of Product Management at Visual BI Solutions, and as Vice President of Business Analytics at Rizing and at HGS.

Why This Newsletter
Most of what gets published about SAP data and analytics is either an announcement or a tutorial. Announcements tell you something shipped. Tutorials tell you which buttons to press. Neither tells you whether you should.
The questions I actually get asked are the ones in between. Should this model live in SAP Datasphere or in SAP Analytics Cloud? Is this feature real yet, or is it roadmap someone repeated on LinkedIn until it sounded shipped? What breaks in eighteen months if we do it this way?
To me, those are not black or white answers, and I do not think they get better by being answered faster. So SAP Data & Analytics Field Notes goes out every two weeks rather than every week, works through one decision properly each issue, and tells you when a claim rests on community reporting rather than an official SAP statement.
